'The morning of the day it happened. I remember that she messaged me and I spoke to her in the evening and told her what happened. She seemed shocked and told me she wanted to

When I first had some surgery, I remember crying on the phone to her asking "who would do this to me, who hates me? I would never wish this on my worst enemy". She told me not to worry, that I'd be okay and she even attended my surprise birthday party and got me flowers and a gift card. She sat beside me and cried and everything.

I6 Local Govt Chairmen, 194 Councillors defect to APC in Kwara

The tide of party defection isn't anywhere near over as 16 Local Govt Chairmen and 194 Councillors  have defected to the ruling opposition party, the All Progressive Congress, APC. The defectees were elected on the platform of PDP.

Announcing their defection today, the Chairman, ALGON, Kwara State chapter (under whose aegis they announced their defection) Mr. Abdulateef Okandeji said failure of the national leaders of the PDP to listen to their grievances is the main reason for their defection.
"I recall that following the refusal and failure of the national leaders of the PDP to address the observations and complaints of its founding members especially about the lawlessness, impunity and injustice which had become the norm and which led to the factionalisation of the PDP, our leaders decided to team up in what is known as the newPDP under the national Chairmanship of our own Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje. After exhaustive consultations and deliberations by our leaders spearheaded by Senator Bukola Saraki, it was unanimously decided that the best option for us would be to merge with the newly formed APC and work together in the overall interest of the good people of this country towards the advancement of democracy,” he said.

Beyonce to be studied in the University

Queen Bee has joined other celebrities including Oprah and husband Jay Z, (who has a Georgetown University sociology course named after him), who are studied in the University. The course is called Politicizing Beyonce and can be taken at Rutgers University in New Jersey.

The University’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies will be exploring the social & cultural significance of the songstress’s music and image.

The course will allow fans to explore Beyonce's alter ego Sasha Fierce, and debate the extent of control she has over her own image. They will also debate whether her red hot persona is an outlet of female sexual empowerment or merely complying with western gender stereotypes.
"This isn’t a course about Beyonce’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend. She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.’ Kevin Allred, the person in charge of the course at Rutgers University said.

Justin Bieber Surrenders To Police, May Be Deported Back To Canada

Justin Bieber has overstayed his welcome in America sort of with different police cases lately, he did one brave thing by surrendering himself to the police and charged with assault for allegedly hitting a Toronto limousine driver several times in the back of the head last month, just hours after his attorney entered a separate not guilty plea in Florida to drunken-driving and other charges, this is not his only headache, President Obama may be twisted by a petition signed by 136,000 people over complaints about the Biebs’ “destructive” effect on American pop culture to deport him back to Canada.

Bieber lately has drawn more attention for his troubles with the law than for his music. His arrival at the Toronto police station when he surrendered was no different, with numerous fans waiting for him. Bieber still remains under investigation for felony vandalism in Los Angeles County over an egg-tossing episode that damaged his neighbour's home. Detectives searched his home on 14 January, and prosecutors have sought additional information before determining whether to pursue charges.
The petition to send him packing reads “We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation’s youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society".

We cannot but stand in awed what a 19 year old could do to himself and the Americans within a one year interval, people like Usher, Eminem and tens of other celebrities have spoken to him, his mum, Pattie has asked for prayers, Selena Gomez has tried all she could to help him come back but it seems, the force behind him is more than he can contain…

Grammy Award Winners Daft Punk Finally Takes Away Their Famous Helmets.

French dance duo Daft Punk, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, who are like Nigerian Lagbaja when it comes to hiding behind the masks were one of the big winners at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, they took home Album of the Year and other awards admits claims from a lot of quarters that some of the black nominees like Kendrick Lamar and maybe,Femi Kuti were robbed of the awards, in a electric and exciting event that got Beyonce lose control of  her attire and suffer serious wardrobe malfunction, the gist is we have caught the Daft Punk without their masks on.

These guys always perform in costumes, dominates every events and keep audience expecting more when they are on stage, well it is working for them as they scooped the best album and best dance/electronica album for Random Access Memories and best record and best pop duo/group performance for Get Lucky during the last Grammy Awards. They even caused a stir after wearing their trademark helmets to the Grammys.

However, they cannot wear their helmets to the airport after their business in America, they had packed away their headgear in protective cases when they jetted back into their native France on Wednesday, looking like regular travellers in the casual clothes they wore as they arrived in Paris… Unbelievable but their streams of songs has increased by 205% after their performance at the grammy and arguably the night’s finest performance, in their costumes of course, and walked away with so many prizes.

They won rave reviews for the high energy rendition of Get Lucky with Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers and Stevie Wonder. Pharrell said: ‘Honestly, I bet France is really proud of these guys right now. ‘Their friend Paul Williams added: ‘Captain Kirk uses the Enterprise, they sail on a ship called generosity. They are generous in spirit.’

Spurs have appealed the red card shown to Danny Rose against Manchester City

Spurs are to appeal against the dismissal of Danny Rose during Wednesday's 5-1 home defeat by Manchester City, according to Sky sources.

The defender was shown a red card on the advice of a linesman following a last-ditch tackle on visiting striker Edin Dzeko.
Referee Andre Marriner looked to be pointing for a corner after Rose diverted the ball behind Hugo Lorris' goal but after consultation with his assistant, awarded a penalty.
Yaya Toure sent the Frenchman the wrong way to put City 2-0 ahead in the 55th minute and within three minutes Dzeko had put the game beyond the home side.
Etienne Capoue gave Spurs brief hope shortly before the hour mark but further goals from substitute Stevan Jovetic and Vincent Kompany completed the rout for City.

After the match, Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood gave a strong hint he would appeal against the card and subsequent three-match ban which would rule Rose out of games against Hull, Everton and Newcastle.
"I think Andre got it right in the first place when he called it as a corner," he said. "But, unfortunately for us, the linesman decided that Andre got it wrong.
"I think Danny's making a last-ditch tackle so he's having to lunge in there a bit. He clearly wins the ball. I think we will appeal."
However, City boss Manuel Pellegrini disagreed with Sherwood's views claiming assistant Scott Ledger was correct to flag for the infringement.
"It was a clear penalty and a clear red card because he was the last man," he said. "The sending-off was not the thing that changed the game. The game was over and completed from the beginning for our team."

West Ham sign midfielder Abdul Razak

West Ham United have completed the signing of former Manchester City midfielder Abdul Razak on a short-term contract.

The 21-year-old most recently played in the Russian Premier League with Anzhi Makhachkala.
He also spent time on loan at Portsmouth, Brighton, Charlton prior to his move to Russia.
Razak made his debut for City when he was 18, but found first-team opportunities limited with the arrival of higher-profile players.

At international level, Razak has been capped five times by Ivory Coast since making his senior debut in a 3-0 friendly win in Austria in November 2012.
"West Ham United are pleased to announce the signing of Ivory Coast international Abdul Razak on a short-term contract," a West Ham statement read.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew upbeat on Clement Grenier

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew remains hopeful they can complete a deal to sign Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Pardew has already lost Yohan Cabaye to Paris St Germain and is therefore keen to bolster his squad with the capture of Grenier after Newcastle tabled a "substantial" bid for the 23-year-old.
Asked if he was hopeful a deal could be completed, Pardew said: "I don't know. We have two days left and we will have to wait and see. I'm obviously hopeful.
"He (Grenier) has tremendous creative technical ability and he's a player that Newcastle fans would love to see at the football club.

"But he's still not our player, so until he is... I will wax lyrical about him then."
Pardew admitted he may have to be patient and try to secure his services in the summer if the deal does not go through before the end of the January transfer window.
"There's no option, really, other than to do that (be patient), but we will have to see how we go in the next two days," he added.

Pardew has already completed a deal to bring Borussia Monchengladbach's Luuk de Jong in on loan and he confirmed he will go straight into the squad for Saturday's derby clash with Sunderland.
"I'm pleased in so much that he's a player we have had our eye on for a while," said Pardew.
"He was someone we couldn't quite reach in his last transfer move in terms of the finance, but that hasn't worked out as perfectly as perhaps they both hoped, the team and Luuk, and he's ended up here.
"But he has done well today and we are looking forward to his inclusion in the squad.
"He's a big presence of a player, he's a goalscorer and if there's a criticism you would aim at us, maybe we could do with scoring a few more goals."

Juan Mata's arrival already boosting Manchester United, says Phil Jones

Juan Mata's impact will improve Manchester United's fortunes this season, according to team-mate Phil Jones.

The Spain international became the club's record signing when he moved from Chelsea for a fee of £37.1m and he impressed in United's 2-0 win over Cardiff on Tuesday night in his first match since his move.
United are 13 points behind local rivals Manchester City in the defence of their Premier League title, and have started 2014 with exits from the FA Cup and Capital One Cup but Jones is confident that Mata will bring out the best in the rest of David Moyes' squad.

"It makes an impact in the dressing room when you sign a player of that calibre," Jones declared. "He is such a talented player on the ball. He has definitely lifted spirits in the dressing room and especially in training.

"We want to impress and show him that we are what we are, that we are one of the best teams to be at. He has done well and I am sure he will be a huge asset and fantastic player for Manchester United, hopefully for many years to come.
"He sees the pass that sometimes no-one else sees. If he continues to make them, I am sure we will soon be climbing the table."

Boost

United's win over Cardiff featured Robin van Persie's first appearance following a thigh injury that had kept the Dutch striker sidelined since early December.
Wayne Rooney appeared off the bench having shaken off a groin problem, and Jones says that a shrinking injury list together with Mata's arrival has already lifted spirits.

"Robin has worked hard to get back," added Jones. "We are delighted to have him, Wazza and Juan now. Bar Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick, we will be at full strength on Saturday (at Stoke) hopefully,
"When you do miss players of that stature, you need to find it elsewhere. We are just delighted to get them back and firing again."

Kola Oyeyemi Tackles Gender Equality In ‘Beware Of Pastors…Pastors Beware’

“Beware Of Pastors… Pastors Beware!” is about the present day Nigerian Church; using biblical references, practical examples and what can be described as astute literary skills, Kola Oyeyemi, sheds light on controversial issues trailing the Church of God in Nigeria.

“Beware Of Pastors… Pastors Beware!” is a relatively short book of eighty pages. In seven stunningly simple chapters, Oyeyemi examines God’s original intention for man in his various relationships and how ignorance exposes the Christian to false prophets.
Kola’s is brutally honest with his examples, regardless of the fact that he is a pastor.
It’s the first time the author who is characteristically conservative, is embracing controversy. But he says the message in his book is clear, and divinely inspired.
“Note that God did not take any part from Adam’s ankle, heel or feet to make the woman. He took from his side. They were created as equal beings. Adam did not need to condescend to relate with her; hence their being naked without any of them being ashamed.”
Although these lines would excite feminists, they are apt and bring attention to the hardly addressed struggles of the modern day Christian.

“Beware Of Pastors… Pastors Beware!” is not your regular Christian book. It uses Biblical references to tackle topical issues plaguing the 21st century Church of Christ.

Policeman sentenced to death by hanging for killing 20yr old man

Justice has finally come the way of the family of slain Emmanuel Victor (pictured above), a 20 year old young man who was killed in front of his mother by a trigger-happy Policeman, Mathew Egheghe, two years ago in Yenogoa, Bayelsa state.

Victor was shot dead after he confronted a group of policemen who were trying to extort money from motorists as he was coming back from church. Angered by his effrontery to question their action, Policeman Egheghe moved close to Victor and shot him at close range.
Narrating what happened, Victor's mother Grace, who witnessed the incident said:
"They shot my son brutally. As he fell while they were shooting him, the tallest of them still continued shooting him on the ground". She said she was harassed and stopped from going close to her dying son even as he lay gasping for life in the pool of his own blood.
Delivering his judgement on the case, Justice Lucky Boufili said that such a cruel act was only punishable by the maximum penalty which is death. He sentenced Mathew Egheghe to death by Hanging. The police has since dismissed Mathew Egheghe and his two accomplices from the force.

Oprah Winfrey Celebrates Her 60th Birthday With An Open Letter

TV personality Oprah Winfrey turned 60 yesterday, and to celebrate, she recalled some of the biggest moments in her life so far in an open, and very heartfelt, letter.
Culled from Huffington Post, please read the wonderful, inspiring letter:

Sixty. I'm turning 60 this month! I'm so glad I've lived long enough to say those words and celebrate their meaning. I'm turning 60. I'm alive. Healthy. Strong.
I'm turning 60, and—please don't take offense—I no longer have to be concerned about what anyone thinks of me! (You know, the old Am I doing it right? Am I saying it right? Am I being what or who I'm "supposed" to be?) I'm turning 60, and I've earned the right to be just as I am. I'm more secure in being myself than I've ever been.
I am in awe of the way my journey here on earth continues to unfold. My life has been marked
by miracles for as long as I can recall -- and even before. (My entire existence is the result of a onetime frolic under an oak tree.) My early days speaking in a Mississippi Methodist church -- Baptist leanings, shoutin', and Holy Ghost included -- prepared me for a future of speaking in a public arena I could never have imagined.

And now, at 60, I simply want to share what I've been given. I want to continue to encourage as many people as I can to open their hearts to life, because if I know anything for sure, it's that opening my own heart is what has brought me my greatest success and joy.
My highest achievement: never shutting my heart down. Even in my darkest moments -- through sexual abuse, a pregnancy at 14, lies and betrayals -- I remained faithful, hopeful, and open to seeing the best in people, regardless of whether they were showing me their worst.
I stayed open to believing that no matter how hard the climb, there is always a way to let in a sliver of light to illuminate the path forward. We go through life discovering the truth about who we are and determining who has earned the right to share the personal space within our heart.
This I also know for sure: God -- however you define or refer to Him, Her, or It -- is for us. The forces of nature are for us, offering us life in abundance. We humans narrow what is an open field of wonder and majesty to the myopic reality of our day-to-day experiences. But there is extraordinary in the ordinary. Every day and every breath is magic -- if we can only see it for what it is.

Some days the awareness of the sanctity and sacredness of life brings me to my knees with gratitude. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that the little girl from Mississippi who grew up holding her nose in an outhouse now flies on her own plane -- my own plane! -- to Africa to help girls who grew up like her. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!
I approach this milestone, the landmark of 60, with humility, supreme thanksgiving, and joy. Knowing for sure grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.
