Drake Drops Aaliyah’s Posthumous Album Release Project Finally

Drake had a long relationship with the late Aaliyah right before she passed on. This is long back when Drake was a reality show winner in Canada and before Lil Wayne called him over to join his tour in the US that eventually got him signed on to Cash Money Records. And, all effort by the rapper to release Aaliyah’s records of unfinished tracks as an album remain under wraps following the dust that has been raised by the fans of the late Aaliyah. Drake finally put a stop to the project yesterday when he could not bear the heat.

The album which was expected to be organized by both Drake and a production house Noah “40″ Shebib. But the production outfit says that Aaliyah’s label, Blackground, her uncle and cousin came to Shebib, the director of the production house and said to him… “If she was around, she’d want you to do this [posthumous] project”. Shebib who says “I’ve been obsessed with Aaliyah forever, and I know Drake has his relationship with her. But that opportunity was mine”. Drake says “Can I do it with you?’ and I was like, ‘Of course, we’ll do it together”.

But reactions trailed Drake’s involvement and he had to droped out of the project. This also affected the production house as well. Shebib says “That was a very sad experience for me. I was naive to the politics surrounding Aaliyah’s legacy and a bit ignorant to Timbaland’s relationship and everybody else involved and how they’d feel. Tim said to me, I shouldn’t drop the project but I think that was Tim taking the position of I’m not going to stop you. If you’re not going to do it, that’s your decision.’ But ultimately, I wasn’t comfortable and didn’t like the stigma”. Drake on his own has since worked away and was said not to be available for talks of continuation of the project.

Aaliyah died in a plane crash with her crew and cast while travelling for a video shoot within the Unites States of America in 2001. She was 22 at the time of her death.
